Abstract

ABSTRACT

Background: Breast cancer is an aggressive cancer and a serious threat to women. Data from Globocan recorded that of the total 396,914 cancer cases in Indonesia and 68,858 cases (16.6%) were breast cancer, with a mortality rate of 22,000 (Kemenkes RI, 2022). While the exact cause of breast cancer is unclear, several risk factors have been identified, such as family history, hormonal changes, early menarche (less than 12 years old), overweight, high fat consumption, prolonged psychological stress, and other external factors. (Olfah et al., 2019).  For this reason, promotive efforts are needed in this case increasing knowledge about early detection of breast cancer such as SADARI, especially in adolescent girls. Objective: To determine the effect of health education with audiovisual media on the knowledge of adolescent girls. Methods: Pre-experimental research with a one group pre-test and post-test design involving 38 respondents, using purposive sampling. Results: The results obtained by univariate and bivariate analysis with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a significant increase in knowledge after the intervention with p value <0.01. Conclusion: Audiovisual-based health education is effective in increasing adolescent girls' knowledge about SADARI.
