Abstract

Pressure ulcers are damage to the skin and underlying tissues caused by continuous pressure, especially in areas such as the sacrum, heels, and hips. This condition commonly occurs in patients with immobility, such as stroke survivors. Stroke is a disruption of blood flow to the brain, caused by blockage or rupture of blood vessels. According to the (World Stroke Organization (WSO) 2024, stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide, with approximately 12 million new cases annually. In DKI Jakarta, the prevalence of stroke reaches 12.2% (Nadhifah & Sjarqiah, 2022). One method to reduce the risk of pressure ulcers in elderly stroke patients is mobilization and effleurage massage using Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO). Objective: To determine the effect of mobilization and effleurage massage using VCO on reducing pressure ulcer risk in elderly stroke patients. Method: This study used a descriptive case study approach on two clients. Results: After assessment, both clients showed reduced mobility, itching, and skin discomfort. The nursing diagnosis was a risk for impaired skin integrity related to decreased mobility. Intervention involved mobilization and effleurage massage using VCO twice daily for five consecutive days. Client I’s Braden Scale score improved from 11 (high risk) to 16 (low risk), and client II’s score from 12 (high risk) to 16 (low risk). Conclusion: This study indicates that mobilization and effleurage massage with VCO effectively reduce pressure ulcer risk in elderly stroke patients at PSBD Budi Bhakti 2 Cengkareng.
