Abstract

Background: Aging is a natural process in human life. With age, it can experience various physical and psychological changes. One of them is in the cardiovascular system, where blood vessels become less elastic and the heart's ability to pump blood (cardiac output) decreases, which can increase the risk of hypertension. WHO (2024), recorded the number of hypertension cases at 2.6 billion cases. SKI Data (2023) showed blood pressure of 56.8%. One of the non-pharmacological actions that can be taken is deep breath relaxation therapy. Purpose: To find out whether deep breathing relaxation can affect the elderly with hypertension at the Bina Daksa Budi Bhakti Social Home (PSBDBB) 2 West Java Resort & Spa 2025. Method: The population in this study is all residents assisted by the Bina Daksa Budi Bhakti Social Home (PSBDBB) 2 Cengkareng West Java, the subjects used were 2 respondents according to inclusion and exclusion factors. The intervention is carried out for 10 minutes, twice a day, 6 times for three consecutive days, after which a post-test was carried out, followed by identification and analysis of pretest and posttest results. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive analysis and in the form of tables. Result: After being given breath relaxation therapy, it showed a decrease in blood pressure to both respondents. Conclusion: The deep breathing relaxation technique can be used as an alternative for the elderly with hypertension independently because it has been proven to affect blood pressure.
